So I am super super new to learning Ruby on Rails and am going through a book (Simply Rails 2 from Sitepoint.com) and so far it’s been going really well, and I’m starting to learn some stuff. But of course, I’ve run into a problem, which seems crazy since I’m just doing what the book says, but I thought I’d through it out there and see if any smart people had any ideas for me. Let me know if I’m not even providing enough info.
Here’s the page out of the book that is supposed to make this highlight visual effect work…
Here’s the page I am trying to work on…
When I press “Shove it” it’s supposed to update the score and do the highlight effect. Instead I press the button and nothing happens, however I know the vote/shove is being received because I can refresh the page and see the score increased.

Wow! I am so excited to let you all know about my new adventure at Fellowship Technologies here in Dallas, Texas! Although I will miss all of the great people at Apple NorthPark Center (everyone should go buy their Apple stuff from them!), I am excited for this great opportunity. I will be working full time in the development department at Fellowship Tech! This team is the one actually building the software and making it work…I get to be a part of that, how awesome?! So what is Fellowship Technologies, you may be asking… Fellowship Technologies has an amazing product called Fellowship One which is a web-based church management software solution. The mission is “…to edify God and His Kingdom by empowering the church community through advanced technology.” What an awesome mission! FT is all about empowering the church to do church at an even better level because of the solutions through Fellowship One! I know that is a super quick snapshot of the company, and I’d encourage you to check out the website to find out lots more. It’s some motivating stuff! I am excited to see how I can assist the awesome team that is already in place in the development area and add value as part of the team! It is an honor to become part of the this group after using F1 as an end user when I was on staff at NorthRidge Church. How cool is that, I got to use it, experience it’s benefit and now I get to be a part of the team. What an honor! So there ya have it, I’m pumped about this new opportunity. It lines up with my passion for using technology to help the church reach people more effectively! I will be starting at Fellowship Tech on Wednesday, September 16, so you can be sure you’ll be hearing more as time goes on. Thanks for reading this and being interested in my journey and for praying for me in the new adventure!
Today I get to share something new with you that I am VERY excited about: YouVersion Live. It’s simple mobile interaction for events that turns your live experience into a conversation. We hope it helps you bring a new level of participation to your communication.
Here are the details:
Communicators will be able to share content on mobile devices and get live feedback during an event. Think message outlines and notes, polls, questions, prayer requests, online giving and more.
Almost anyone with a mobile device will be able to participate and respond—any web-enabled phone will work, as well as the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, and any laptop or computer with an Internet connection.
It will be easy to use. To set up your experience ahead of time, you’ll have your own simple admin area where you can drag and drop each element that you want to be a part of your event.
It’s an extension of YouVersion.com and the Bible App. Since millions of people are already using YouVersion, you’ll have a head start on introducing this new tool to your congregation, organization, etc.
Not only will people have an engaging way to experience your message live, but they’ll also be able to take it with them on their mobile device and refresh themselves on the the content wherever they are.
It will be completely free.
YouVersion Live will launch this October. We’re letting you know now, so you can have time to imagine the possibilities for your church, team, or organization. You can find one example on the YouVersion blog, and I’ll offer a few more ideas below:
Replace or augment the weekend bulletin at your church. Save money and save trees by going beyond paper to an interactive guide that’s as easy for people to access as pulling out their phone.
Create a conference experience that pulls the attendees into the presentations…their questions, knowledge, ideas, etc.
Ask for candid feedback and share anonymous responses during a youth series on sex.
Help your Bible study classes remember what they learn by participating and contributing to the content.
We’ll be talking more about this over the coming weeks, and we’ll also be offering some webinars to help you learn more about what you can do with it. Check out http://youversion.com/live and sign up for email updates to stay in the loop!
YouVersion Live is stinking awesome. Can’t wait until October to play with it. This is going to have a ton of different uses. Wow! Great job LifeChurch.tv!
Just some thoughts on a guy named Forrest who attends LifeChurch. I tried to post this yesterday, but it wasn’t cooperating. So now I got it up. For context, the post I was talking about from Carlos Whittaker is here and the video from LifeChurch is here.
